Retiring
Lexi Thompson, one of the world’s most famous female golfers, has decided to call it a career when this season ends at the age of 29.
Thompson, a 15-time winner, announced Tuesday that this will be her final season of professional golf.
Thompson said he has considered semi-retirement over the past few years and cited mental health as one of the factors contributing to his decision.
On Tuesday, she won the Women’s U.S. “I think we all struggle, especially here,” he said at the Open. “Unfortunately, in golf you lose more than you win, so putting yourself in front of the camera and continuing to work hard is a constant battle and you may not be getting the results you want and get criticized for it. So, it’s difficult.
“I’ve struggled with it. I don’t think there’s anyone here who hasn’t. It’s just a matter of how well you hide it, which is so sad.
Is married
Lexi Thompson has not publicly talked about being married or dating anyone at the moment (September 2023).
Penalty
The 22-year-old Thompson escaped shock and tears, and she forced a playoff with three birdies, sending the crowd at Dinah Shore Course into a tizzy.
But So Yeon managed to take advantage of the break created by Ryu Thompson’s extraordinary penalty.
Ryu birdied a playoff hole to win the LPGA Tour’s first major of the year on Sunday, after Thompson was blindsided by an errant violation 24 hours earlier.
Thompson, the US Olympian who won here in 2014, was stunned by the decision, which kept her from cruising towards an easy victory. The decision cost them more than their strong chances at their second major title: Ryu won $405,000 with the win, and Thompson finished second with just over $250,000.
