Federal magistrate cleared Kyle Rittenhouse’s $110 million defamation suit against LeBron James.

Fact: After 18-year-old Rittenhouse was acquitted of murder charges in connection with the shooting of three people at a protest in Wisconsin, posts emerged on social media that he filed a defamation suit against some high-profile celebrities, including James did. ,
One claim, which was posted on Facebook Tuesday night, says: “Hahahahaha! It’s gonna be good! ‘Federal magistrate approves Kyle Rittenhouse’s $110 million defamation suit against LeBron James.
The post has been shared nearly 2,000 times and has been viewed over 70,000 times. This claim was also circulated on Twitter.
However, according to David Hancock, a spokesman for Rittenhouse and his family, the claim is “not quite true”.
“No legal action has been taken against any organization or individual in particular,” Hancock told the AP.
He said Rittenhouse and his legal team are not currently discussing any plans to file a defamation suit.
Rittenhouse suing James, which appears to have originated on a satirical website, Pottery’s Unite, which states on its about page, “Everything on this website is fictional.” It is a subsidiary of America’s Last Line of Defense, a network of websites that publish satirical content that is often interpreted as genuine.
Similar claims that Rittenhouse has filed for defamation have circulated on social media in recent days. On Sunday, the AP reported on the false claims, saying they filed a lawsuit against CNN along with Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar, both hosts of “The View.”

Shortly after Kyle Rittenhouse was found not guilty in the fatal shootings of two men, false claims began to circulate that he was taking legal action against CNN and others, including the hosts of the television show “The View.”
Now, a viral Facebook post says, “Federal magistrate approves $110 million defamation lawsuit by Kyle Rittenhouse against LeBron James.”

Rittenhouse did not file a defamation suit against the basketball star, his spokesman told the Associated Press. The claim appears to have originated on a website called Potatriots Unite which says it is known for “satire, ridicule and ridicule”.
Rittenhouse was acquitted on November 19 of murder and other charges in the 2020 shooting that killed two people and injured a third. Soon after, some pundits speculated that he might have grounds to sue some news organizations for defamation over their coverage.
