Retired NFL legend Lawrence Taylor was arrested in Florida on Thursday, as first reported by Andy Slater of Fox Sports 640. The Hall of Fame pass-rusher and longtime Giants star is facing two serious charges for failing to alert officials to a change of address. It comes 10 years after 62-year-old Taylor pleaded guilty to charges of sexual misconduct and patronizing a prostitute, which resulted in him becoming a registered sex offender – which requires notifying authorities of the new residences.

Taylor was booked at around 8:45 pm. According to ET, TMZ, and released later Thursday night from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. His attorney, Arthur Aidala, told TMZ that the former linebacker “has been complying with all rules and regulations regarding his legal position for the past decade.” Taylor is “in the midst of a divorce,” however, “and his local police department suggested it would be best if he slept in a nearby hotel.”

After an All-American career at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1978–1981), Taylor was drafted by the Giants as the second overall pick in the 1981 NFL Draft. Although there was a dispute over the selection due to Taylor’s contractual demands, the two sides quickly resolved the issue. Taylor won several defensive awards following his rookie season. Taylor is the first and currently the only NFL player to win the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in his rookie season. During the 1980s and 1990s, Taylor was a disruptive force in the outside linebacker, and is credited with changing the defensive game plan, defensive pass rushing scheme, offensive line blocking scheme, and offensive structures used in the NFL.
