Who is manager
Fremantle’s football general manager Peter Bell admits he was surprised to receive a trade request from Lachie Schultz and said it was “interesting” that he had chosen a destination club.
The Dockers were hoping for a fairly quiet trade period apart from deciding Liam Henry’s future but the Schultz bombshell has disturbed their calm waters.
Bell said the club was taken by surprise as they had been in talks about a multi-year deal since the extension began in June.
“Lachey advised (on Monday) for a few different reasons that he was interested in moving back to Victoria and selected to play at Collingwood,” he said on AFL Trade Radio.
Highlights
The Magpies have acquired Schultz in exchange for pick 34 and Collingwood’s first-round pick next year.
The Pies got pick 34 in the Taylor Adams deal last week.
Schultz had requested to return the business to Victoria for family reasons and named the Pies as his preferred destination.
With the trade completed, the Dockers now have three first-round selections for next year; His own, one linked to Collingwood for Schultz and one linked to Port Adelaide after a pick swap with the Power last week.
“It is obviously disappointing to see Lachey depart after arriving at pick 57 in 2018 and seeing him develop into the player he is today,” Fremantle head of player personnel David Walls said.
“In turn, we have boosted our draft hands this year and next. We have three first-round picks for 2024 as well as 34 picks in 2023, our highest current pick in the draft.
