Issue with celtics fans

There is no love between Kyrie Irving and Boston Celtics fans. As Irving’s Brooklyn Nets take on Boston in a first-round series in the 2022 NBA playoffs, beef between the star point guard and one of the most passionate fans in the game is in the spotlight again.

Irving was sent to Boston after requesting a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers ahead of the 2017–18 season. Irving spent two seasons with the Celtics before leaving to sign Kevin Durant as a free agent with Brooklyn in the summer of 2019. Celtics fans still hold a grudge against Irving for his two heavy seasons with the team, and Irving has responded by treating Boston. Fans treat him the same way they treat him.

Whenever Irving returns to Boston, controversy always follows. The 2022 NBA Playoffs are no different. Here’s the latest brawl between Irving and Boston in the context of their shared history that caused so much tension.

What happened to

It seems that Kyrie Irving was not enjoying his time in Boston. not the city. not a fan. Probably disliked Dunkin’ too. Two years at the hub were enough to send Irving Racing to New York for Amtrak, a potential superteam with a Celtics division rival.

Boston doesn’t like Irving. At least not a fan of the Celtics, anyway. For many, Irving is the superstar who committed to bailing City out in 2018 after only nine months, blowing up a championship-level team along the way. The list of Boston sports villains is long. Irving is near the top of it.

Officially, it is Boston vs. Brooklyn in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. Unofficially, it’s Kyrie vs. Boston. Irving scored 39 points in Game 1. He made six of his 10 three-pointers. He made six assists, took four passes and made all nine of his free throws. They even flipped courtside fans (twice) and exchanged some colorful language. On Tuesday, the NBA dinged him for $50,000.

Fined by NBA

The league announced Tuesday that the NBA has fined Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving $50,000 for “making obscene gestures on the playing court and directing hate speech toward spectators.”

It happened during Boston’s 115-114 win against Brooklyn on Sunday, and the penalty was no surprise.

Irving flipped fans with his middle fingers just before the jump and hurled hate speech at a fan after exiting the court and headed to the locker room in Brooklyn. These incidents were posted and shared on social media.

Earlier this season, Irving was fined $25,000 for directing obscene language at a fan during a game in Cleveland. Players are typically fined $15,000 for obscene gestures, but the combination of both gestures and language, and Irving’s prior offenses led to larger fines.
