Murray officially signed his five-year, $230.5 million extension on Monday and with it came the revelation that there was an addendum that said he had to play at least four games each week during the season during his deal. Hours of independent study had to be completed.

Playoff record

Lamar Jackson has faced his share of criticism for not winning one playoff game in four years.

However, Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray’s struggle underscores the challenges of winning a playoff game for a young quarterback.

Murray scored 34 for 19 for 137 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in their 34–11 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the wild-card round. He also bowled a six in his first appearance after the season.

Jackson has led the Ravens to the playoffs in three of his four years in the NFL, going 1-3 on that stretch. He has completed 76 of 136 pass attempts for 900 yards with three touchdowns and five interceptions.

Record

During the first two months of every season since 2019, Murray posted a 15-8-1 record on 67.6% passing with 18 interceptions for 6,352 yards and 39 touchdowns to go.

But in the final three months of the season, Murray’s numbers take a hit, highlighted by his 7-15 record as a starter.

In 22 games played from November–January, Murray has recorded 16 interceptions from 5,128 yards and 31 touchdowns on 66% of passings. He scored eight for an additional 889 yards and 144 carries.

And when the QB doesn’t drive the cliff on a regular basis, the win output is reduced. The Cardinals are 14-4 when he records at least eight rushing attempts as opposed to 8-19 points when Murray has fewer than eight carries.

Salary

Kyler Murray signed a 5-year, $230,500,000 contract with the Arizona Cardinals, which includes a $29,035,000 signing bonus, $160,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $46,100,000. In 2022, Murray will earn a base salary of $965,000 and a signing bonus of $29,035,000, while having a cap hit of $12,669,481 and a dead cap value of $110,197,481.
