Following the last-second finish between the 49ers and Green Bay Packers on “Sunday Night Football,” head coaches Kyle Shanahan and Matt LaFleur had a quick and seemingly icy postgame handshake at midfield.

In his postgame media availability, Shanahan downplayed the interaction, saying he was frustrated by the Packers being able to set up Mason Crosby’s game-winning field goal.

Salary

We know Kyle Shanahan’s contract extension with the 49ers makes him one of the five-highest-paid head coaches in the NFL. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that. We don’t know how much money Shanahan actually makes.

NFL teams don’t have to report the value of their head coaches’ contracts, because they don’t count against the salary cap. They mostly are a mystery. But Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer is connected, and believes the 49ers made Shanahan one of roughly eight head coaches who earn at least $10 million per season.

Wife

Kyle Shanahan is  married Amanda “Mandy” O’Donnell on July 5, 2005, in a Roman Catholic ceremony. The couple have three children.

Postgame

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur had a very brief post-game handshake Sunday night that probably won’t quiet any speculation about whether or not there’s been any damage to their friendship, but it’s possible the moment came simply as a result of Shanahan’s frustration over losing to the Packers in the final seconds.

Shanahan and LaFleur’s quick encounter came right after Packers kicker Mason Crosby connected on a 51-yard field goal to give the Packers a 30-28 win, which was a heartbreaking result for a 49ers team that had battled back from a 17-point first half deficit to take a 28-27 lead with 37 seconds to play. The two shook hands quickly then brushed shoulders as they walked in opposite directions.

new rules

That’s one of the things I love about Kyle Shanahan. He has thought through things so much as a coach that he’s even decided that sliding to avoid injury during practice is too risky because that in itself could lead to an injury.

I really do hope we get to see Lance’s speed on display on Saturday. As for the ends of those runs, we’ll soon find out if he has the protective instincts that some of the great scramblers like Russell Wilson and Lamar Jackson possess.
