Statistics don’t lie. In 2021, Kyle Bush struggled and had his worst season in seven years, finishing 9th in the final standings. What’s more worrying for the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion is that he’s managed just three wins over the past two seasons. For some perspective – the last time he won less than four times in a season was back in 2014 when he won once. For the Joe Gibbs Racing driver, the arrival of the next gen car could not have come at a better time. And this week, during a test run of the car at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Bush showed why he is considered one of the best in the business, when he made an impressive move that many other drivers had previously failed to do, including the team. Partner Denny Hamlin was also involved. However, the last two seasons have been in contrast to Busch, earning only three wins and finishing eighth and ninth respectively in the final points standings. The next gen car provides a kind of clean slate to the 36-year-old driver.

During testing in Charlotte this week, Bush provided a master class in the art of saving a car during one of its test runs. 18 car came loose in Turn 4, but instead of losing the car completely and turning out or hitting a wall, as many others had done before, Bush deftly fixed the car, saved it, and Then calmly made it down the pothole road.

2022

Late last year, NASCAR revealed that Kyle Busch is required to complete sensitivity training prior to the 2022 Cup Series season.
Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch was disappointed with how the final race of the semifinal round of 8, October’s NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at Martinsville Speedway, ended. But based on where the other playoff contenders finished, a runner-up finish was not. That’s enough to put Bush back in Championship 4 for the first time since 2019.
Team Penske’s Brad Kiselowski was in a similar position. He didn’t move forward either. He finished third behind Bowman and Bush, after trying to take out Bush in the final turn, possibly taking second place in Bowman’s case.
