Kurt Thomas Busch (born 4 August 1978) is an American professional auto racing driver. He competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 45 Toyota Camry TRD for 23XI Racing. He is the 2004 NASCAR Cup Series champion, the 2017 Daytona 500 winner, and the longest active driver in the Cup Series in terms of career starts. He is the elder brother of two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch.

Bush was born in Las Vegas, Nevada to Thomas and Gay Bush. At the age of six, Bush was going to the track with his father and competing in kart racing. As a young teen, he competed in the midget competition, winning his second race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Bullring. This father and son team competed on western track from Southern California to Utah. In 1994, his first full year as a driver, Busch won ten consecutive races at ten different tracks. His father eventually sold his midget equipment and bought a powerful car for the Legends series, which Bush began driving in 1996 at the age of 18. After graduating from Durango High School, Bush enrolled at the University of Arizona hoping to earn a degree in pharmacy.
While attending the 2005 Hungarian Grand Prix, Bush became engaged to girlfriend Eva Bryan. They were married in Virginia, on July 27, 2006, three years after they met on a blind date. Busch announced on June 30, 2011, “People in the NASCAR community have known for some time that we are no longer together and that we are legally separated”. The announcement comes days after Bush kissed another woman at the Victory Lane celebration after his victory at Sonoma Raceway. In Martinsville in October 2014, Bush was introduced to polo player Ashley Van Meter by his sister, who was also Bush’s friend. The two eventually began dating, and Busch announced their engagement on August 26, 2015. They were married on January 7, 2017. As of August 2019, Busch and his wife star in the CMT’s Racing Wives reality TV show. On May 17, 2022, it was announced that Ashley Bush had filed for divorce.

NASCAR released a statement Sunday, revealing that 23XI Racing’s Kurt Bush will miss the Cup Series ‘M’M’s Fan Appreciation 400 (3 p.m. ET, USA, NBC Sports App, MRN, SiriusXM) at Pocono Raceway. Busch was involved in a single-car wreck during Busch Light Pole qualifying on Saturday, and revealed via social media that he was still experiencing concussion-like symptoms.
NASCAR’s statement read: “This morning, Kurt Bush met with doctors at the Infield Care Center for further evaluation after his accident during yesterday’s qualifying session. Following the evaluation, Kurt Bush was scheduled to attend today’s NASCAR Cup Series event. Not cleared to race at Pocono Raceway.
23XI Racing announced that Ty Gibbs, an Xfinity Series regular for Gibbs Racing, will fill in for Busch on Sunday. Gibbs is about to make his cup debut.

Busch’s open discussion about a possible timeline for his retirement comes just a week after 23XI Racing announced they would hire rising Cup star Tyler Reddick to drive for the team starting in 2024. With 23XI Racing being a two-car team and reports of a new contract being considered for Bubba Wallace, Reddick has discussed replacing Bush as 23XI’s number 45 driver as a possible scenario. — especially considering that Bush will turn 45 at the end of next season

Kurt Busch, driving a Jordan Brand-sponsored Toyota for Jordan’s 23XI Racing, won a NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway on Sunday.
Bush’s car was inspired by the Air Jordan III black cement elephant print. It was the first time Jordan’s company had sponsored one of his race cars since his team began operations in 2021.
Victory was in doubt all afternoon, with Bush overtaking his brother Kyle Bush and race leader Kyle Larson in the closing laps. Kurt got around to Kyle with 21 laps to go, and then set his eyes on the defending series champion. Chasing his prey, Busch’s older brother took only eight laps to exit turn two, leaving Larsen behind. From there, the No. 45 Jordan car headed to victory.
Bush, 43, is no stranger to victory alley. He now has 34 career victories, including at least one in nine straight seasons and a championship in 2004. This is his first team, after his former team, Chip Ganassi Racing, was sold after the 2021 season driving to 23XI Racing.
