Allen iverson letter to

The first time I saw you going up against Black Jesus (Michael Jordan) was when you were 18, I knew you were an assassin,” Iverson wrote. “At that point I realized you were going to be a legend in this sport. You were barely going over the mic that night. No fear. I mean, I knew from passing you in traffic for years that you were a legend.” There were dogs. But when I saw you approaching Black Jesus like this? That’s when I came to know that you are a kind soul.”

Iverson wrote Bryant a unique letter to the Players Tribune in a way that only Iverson could do. He talks about their on-court fight, the way they inspired each other to become great, and more.

I loved Iverson, a story from the 1996–97 rookie season of Stars.

The Lakers had already visited Philadelphia in late November – Los Angeles won, 100–88, and Iverson scored six for 27 – but the Sixers made their first trip to LA a month later for the last game of the calendar year. Key, and the two young guns were able to find time to hang out.

Enter Iverson’s memory of his early first pro trip to the West Coast:

“Remember when I first flew out to L.A. for our rookie year? You picked me up at the hotel and we went out to eat something, and you asked me what I was doing afterward.

“I said I was going to the club. I mean, we in L.A.! I’m going to the club, Kobe. Come on, man.

“and what did you say?

“‘I’m going back to the gym.’

“You’re probably the only dude in game history where the mystery wasn’t exaggerated. Mamba wasn’t a myth, man. It didn’t even do you justice. One, two, three mornings, we knew where you were.”

Even at 18, Bryant had that mamba mentality. This is some next level dedication.

And the remarkable thing about it is where both the players were in their respective careers.

During the ensuing game, Iverson scored 21, Bryant scored zero, and the Lakers won 13. No one would have blamed Bryant for seeing that he had no role in that year’s team, and at least having some fun going out with Iverson.

But that was not Kobe’s way. He knew that, if he was to be the cow for the Lakers, he had to make the most of every moment. And that’s what he did, every day, until he was invincible.

On January 26 last year, a helicopter crashed in Calabasas, California, northwest of Los Angeles, killing eight others, including 41-year-old and their 13-year-old daughter, Gianna.

Bryant’s death triggered a wave of emotion that went far beyond the traditional boundaries of the NBA and included heartfelt tributes from entertainment stars, politicians, and athletes from various sports.

The tragedy was made even more poignant by the fact that Bryant died alongside his teenage daughter, Gigi, who was a regular appearance during her late father’s NBA career.

Bryant coached Gigi’s basketball team on several occasions and had repeatedly stated in interviews that his 13-year-old daughter was a far better player than her age.

Clemson got another commitment Wednesday night, this time from three-star linebacker Kobe McCloud. McCloud is the younger brother of former Clemson wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud, who now plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

McCloud gives Clemson his 16th commitment to the Class of 2022 as the Tigers continue to put together their final pieces ahead of next week’s signing period. McCloud is from Tampa, Fla., and is the nation’s No. 1,156 prospect and No. 119 linebacker, according to 247Sports Composite. Clemson needed another linebacker after Jaren Kanak retired and followed Brent Venables, former defensive coordinator at Oklahoma.

McCloud chose Clemson over proposals from several other Power 5 programs, including Boston College, Indiana, Iowa State, Maryland, Miami, Pittsburgh and Syracuse.

Kobe and Gianna Bryant were among the nine people killed in the January 2020 crash in Calabasas, California.

In September 2020, Vanessa Bryant filed a lawsuit against Los Angeles County in federal court, seeking undeclared damages, claiming civil rights violations, negligence, emotional distress and breach of privacy.

The trial is scheduled for February 22 and lawyers estimate it will take around 15 days.

According to the filing, the lawyers plan to call at least 12 witnesses and about 28 others may be called to testify. In addition to Bryant and the defendants, the witness list includes Sheriff Alex Villanueva, current and former law enforcement personnel, journalists — and a bartender who viewed the crash photos and the patron who allegedly complained to the sheriff’s department in the suit.

According to the document, Katherine Gasol, Rob and Kristin Pelinka, and Kobe’s sister Sharia Washington are expected to testify about Bryant’s emotional distress, although these witnesses are not expected to view any photos of Bryant published by the media or made available online. information is not available.
