When does come back
Klay Thompson underwent surgery to repair his torn Achilles on November 25, 2020. Prior to this, he was recovering from a torn ACL, which occurred during the 2019 NBA Finals in June of that year. Shams further said that he expects Thompson to return around December to January of this upcoming season. For Kel, it would be nearly 2.5 years since he last played NBA basketball for his anticipated return.
Before his injuries, Kell averaged 21.5 points per game and 40.2% from the three-point line. For the Warriors, Kel will give an extra boost to a better three-point shooting team based on pre-season results.
One luxury that the Warriors have is the excellent game of Jordan Pool. Head coach Steve Kerr has said Poole will be the opening shooting guard until Kel returns from his injury. Poole has made the most of that opportunity this season and is looking to carry that momentum into the regular season. With such a good game of pool, the Warriors will be able to push Thompson slowly and allow him to work himself back at a comfortable pace, hopefully with no further injuries.

When is expected to return
“It will be a play-by-ears thing,” head coach Steve Kerr said recently. “The main thing is that he is progressing well, he is in a very good mental state, in a really good place. It is exciting to think of him coming back. All the players and coaches are excited, just knowing that That he’s on track is awesome.
“We’ll just see where he comes to training camp and trust the training staff to work with him and give us the advice we need, and we’ll go from there.”
Thompson echoed that timeline when answering questions during an Instagram Live session.
“I’m planning … hopefully early next season,” Thompson said on Friday when asked when he would return from his boat doing an Instagram Live. “I mean, the Achilles is in like a 12-month recovery phase. But I also have to take into account my left knee because I don’t want to come back and be half myself, you know what I’m saying? The recovery is going through. It’s slow. The Achilles is exhausting.”
