Return date
I am able to start my season on January 9 against the Cavaliers.
On December 17, Wojnarowski reported that the Warriors are targeting an early January date for Thompson’s return. Golden State is considering January 9 (vs Cavaliers) and January 18 (vs Pistons) as possible return dates. 3 return against the Heat has yet to be ruled out, but it is unlikely that Thompson will return to the field for that competition.
On December 16, Shams Charnia and Anthony Slater of The Athletic reported that the likely earliest return date for Thompson is December 28, as he is still improving his conditioning.
Feather. On December 3, Thompson told his followers on Instagram Live that he expected to be back “in the next few weeks” or “maybe a month”, according to Mark J. Spears of The Undefeated. That timeline aligns with previous reports indicating that his return could happen on Christmas Day.
On November 28, Charnia reported that Thompson had been assigned to increase practice reps to the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State’s G League affiliate. This built on a report from ESPN’s Nick Friedel, who noted that Thompson was participating in full team practice for the first time since tearing his Achilles in November 2020.
Did play tonight
On Sunday, ESPN reported that Thompson was experiencing pain in his left knee and has been considered for Golden State on a day-to-day basis.
According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said the team was cautious with Thompson and that the blow was “nothing concerning”, further reporting that Thompson did not practice on Monday. Kerr confirmed that Thompson is listed as a suspect to play on Tuesday.
Thompson has been on a one-minute ban since returning to the Warriors lineup on January 9. The 31-year-old averages 14.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists from six matches this season.
Golden State’s game against Dallas is the fifth game of a seven-game homestand, with games against the Minnesota Timberwolves and Brooklyn Nets to follow.

what happened
Thompson was on his way to recovery after missing the entirety of the 2019–20 NBA season with a torn ACL in his left knee. Then, in November 2020, he went down with a leg injury during an off-season workout in Southern California. The Warriors’ worst fears were realized when it was confirmed that Thompson had suffered a torn Achilles.
The Warriors announced on November 25, 2020 that Thompson underwent successful surgery to repair a torn Achilles. As part of a team statement, Golden State said Thompson was “expected to make a full recovery.”
