His father, Mychal, told NBC Sports Bay Area’s Kerith Burke that his son’s love of water was evident from day one and had a lot to do with how much time he spent in the Bahamas as a child.
“Ever since he was a kid—going swimming, jumping in pools, jumping in lakes in Oregon, jumping in rivers… he was always fascinated and attracted to water,” Thompson said. “I think it’s part of his Bahamian roots.
“Obviously Americans love the water too. From going to the Bahamas to the childhood years—I mean being on the beach below, those fabulous beaches, the warm 70-degree waters, being out there with boats that crystal- Clear water, I think being around boats as a kid in the Bahamas gave him a love of water.”
Thompson has shared over the past two injury-ridden seasons how much he misses playing basketball with his Warriors teammates. The court is where he feels best, it is his home.
