The 2022 Kentucky Derby (officially, the 2022 Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve) will be the 148th race of the Kentucky Derby. It will take place on the first Saturday of May on May 7, 2022 in Louisville, Kentucky. The race is open to 20 horses who qualified for the race for the Kentucky Derby by earning points on the 2022 Road. The Kentucky Derby is a Grade I stakes race for three-year-old Thoroughbreds over a distance of 1 miles (2.0 km) and has been run at Churchill Downs Racetrack since its inception in 1875. The purse for 2022 will be US$3 million.

Predictions
One surprise: Yu is outranking Messier, even though he remains one of the top 2022 Kentucky Derby favorites at 8-1. In fact, Yu says Messier barely makes the top 10. One of the knocks on Messier is his performance when he is not setting the pace or is among the horses.
Even though Messier has received positive reviews for his workouts at the Kentucky Derby 2022, other horses such as Epicenter, Xandon and Zozos have produced similar or better bare speed figures in their most recent ratings. Taiba, who snatched the win from Messier in the Santa Anita Derby on April 9, also took the win, nearly equaling his previous pace figure of 103. Taiba’s performance showed that even though Messier may be the setter of the pace, it is not a guarantee of victory.
Instead, Yu is high on Cyberknife, even though he’s a 20-1 long shot. CyberKnife has raced three times this year and won their last two, including a successful showing in the Arkansas Derby. He has the pedigree you’re looking for because his sire, the Gun Runner, won several stakes races as a three-year-old and finished in the money in the 2016 Kentucky Derby.
