It’s once again the first week in May and that means it’s time for the Kentucky Derby. The inauguration of the 2022 Triple Crown is scheduled for Saturday, May 7.

Before the race, the draw for the 148th race of the Kentucky Derby took place. Below are the results of the draw.

Before we unveil the post positions for the latest edition of “Run for the Roses,” let’s take a look at the odds. There are many favorites in the field of 2022 who definitely have a chance to win. Epicenter is currently listed as the odds-on favorite at 5/1. Most recently, Epicenter won the Louisiana Derby back in March and the three-year-old colt took four first-place finishes. Three-year-old colt Xandon is right behind Epicenter at 6/1 odds after winning the $1 million Grade 1 Toyota Blue Grass in Kentucky. The last Blue Grass participant to earn a spot in the Kentucky Derby was Street Sense in 2007.

The 148th Kentucky Derby (G1) is on tap at Churchill Downs on Saturday, May 7, and this year’s “Run for the Roses” will feature star quality as well as promising up-and-comers and even some International shippers are also included.

A maximum of 20 horses can run in the 1 1/4-mile Kentucky Derby, the first jewel of the Triple Crown for three-year-old Thoroughbreds. Horses make their way into the field by earning points in the designated prep races for the Kentucky Derby on the road that began last September and recently ended on April 16.

Here the points are the top 20 on the leaderboard, all assured a spot in the starting gate on the first Saturday of May. Four additional horses may enter as “also-eligible” on Mondays if any of the horses in the main part of the field are scratched. So we are adding the next four to the points list, waiting for the horses to defection “on the bubble”.
