Interceptions
Steelers fans are calling on New Jersey native Kenny Pickett to replace struggling Mitch Trubisky. And that’s what finally happened to open the second half against the Jets on Sunday.
Pickett made his NFL debut with rapturous enthusiasm from the crowd at Acresur Stadium, where he starred in Pitt in college. But his first NFL pass was misguided and intercepted by Jets safety Jordan Whitehead after Piquet put the ball deep into double coverage.
Trubisky and the Steelers’ offense fought hard in the first half, being regularly booed by the crowd and failing to score a touchdown. Piquet entered the game to start the second half, trailing the Steelers 10-6. Trubisky finished the first half 7-in-13 for 84 yards, one interception and three sacks.
Piquet’s interception did not cost the Steelers as Zach Wilson was later intercepted when his pass was dropped by Tyler Conklin and intercepted by Minka Fitzpatrick, who made it back to the 4-yard line. . From 1 to third and on goal, Piquet ran for his first career touchdown—a yard from the left guard.

The comeback began when Zack Wilson – starting his season – hit Corey Davis with 7:41 for a five-yard score. Michael Carter lifts Pickett on the ensuing possession of Pittsburgh. The pick set up Bryce Hall’s game-winning, 1-yard score with 16 seconds remaining.
New York’s comeback was fueled by Wilson and a defense that came with three picks from Piquet, who replaced Mitch Trubisky after the Steelers went 10-6 at halftime. Wilson threw 252 yards while catching his first career touchdown and gave the Jets an early 10-0 lead.
