The Pittsburgh Steelers have selected Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett as the 20th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

The Steelers held strong and had their choice of quarterback in the first round. With Malik Willis and Kenny Pickett still on board, Pittsburgh decided to stay with his hometown star as the first QBs drafted.

Piquet will join the Steelers after a Heisman Finals season. He heads to the NFL as the most starter-ready passer in this year’s class. He will be joined by Michelle Trubisky and Mason Rudolph in the quarterback room.

Pittsburgh will be holding a quarterback competition for its starter, and Pickett is certainly involved. His 52 college starts included 12,303 passing yards and a total of 101 touchdowns for the Pit Panthers.

The Steelers once went over Dan Marino in the NFL Draft. This time he is stuck with his hometown hero.

Reaction

Kneeling response is an immediate response to a situation without taking the time to analyze the situation. This is something we usually do as sports fans. Especially if you are a full blood yinjar, or even just a part yinjar. As is custom, I compile my knee-jerk thoughts and publish them immediately after each Steelers game. This is my version of playing my mouth first and apologizing later (or not apologizing at all). So that being said, I’m going to apply that philosophy here during the NFL Draft.

As always, Roger Goodell ushers in a lot of boons.
Jag ate well, Jaggi, but they are on the clock.
Travan Walker is no big surprise after rising to the top over the past few days.
Lions catches Aiden Hutchinson with a 2nd pick. Some shore runners to start things off.
Stingley Jr. at No. 3, there was little surprise. Thought it must have been the sauce.
Defense is the name of the game, as Sous Gardner makes it a straight 4.
Defense again! Another torrent runner!
The first offensive player is finally off the board, as Ekwonu goes to 6 in the tackle.
Back to back tackle now…..interesting.
The Falcons make it three consecutive offensive players, along with WR London. He needed a receiver.
Fourth consecutive offensive player, and third tackle.

Pickett is coming off a breakout season for Pittsburgh with a total of 4,319 passing yards with 42 touchdowns and just seven interceptions in 13 games. He finished third in the voting for the Heisman Trophy.

This has put him in contention for being the first quarterback from the board in the April draft, with other top choices including Desmond Ridder, Malik Willis and Matt Coral. The Scouting Department of Bleacher Report lists Pickett as the No. 3 quarterback in the class.

Supporter’s Day garnered a lot of attention among NFL personnel, especially for teams seeking quarterbacks this off-season

The Carolina Panthers had a particularly large contingent in attendance, including general manager Scott Fitterer, head coach Matt Roulette, and offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo, according to Panthers Wire’s Anthony Rizzutti.

Piquet will hope that his passing ability will be enough to satisfy teams looking for a quarterback in this draft.
