In his collegiate debut, Chandler scored 20 points and four assists in a 90–62 win against UT Martin. On December 4, 2021, he scored 28 points in a 69–54 victory over Colorado. Chandler was named to the second-team All-SEC as well as the All-freshman squad. He Averaged 13.8 points, 4.6 assists and 2.2 steals per game. Michigan coach Juwan Howard comforted new Kennedy Chandler of Tennessee in seconds after the Wolverines’ victory over the Volunteers in the men’s NCAA Tournament on Saturday.
No. 11 Michigan bounced back in the second half to beat No. 3 Vol, 76–68 in the second round of South Zone and advance to the Sweet 16 for a fifth consecutive tournament despite Chandler’s best efforts. The freshman guard led Tennessee with 19 points and was a key player in the Volunteers in the second half before Tennessee went on a late scoring drought that helped Michigan climb back into the game.
Shortly after the upset became official, Chandler broke down in tears at the postgame handshake line. Howard was there to console her.
