Thibodeau said the move was, “a tough decision to make. But you always have to do what you think is best for the team.”

Walker started 18 of the first 19 games of the season for New York before he was out due to rest for the team’s matchup against the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday. In the win, Burks scored a season-high 23 points with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Trade:

The Celtics traded Walker to the Thunder in June in exchange for big man Al Horford and Moses Brown.

Oklahoma City took him with the goal of flipping him, but with two years and $74 million left on his deal, Walker’s trade market was severely limited. The details of the buyout aren’t immediately known.

News:

Boston is sending All-Star point guard Kemba Walker, the 16th pick in this year’s NBA draft and a 2025 second-round selection to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Al Horford, Moses Brown and a 2023 second-round pick, the teams announced Friday.

A buyout usually takes place in case a player and a team want to part ways. During this process, the player will have to pay back a specific amount that they have agreed on in the contract. This total amount will usually not be the full amount specified by the contract.
