Daughter:
Andrea was a home health aide who worked seven days a week, 12 hours a day, to raise the children with her husband Paul, a carpenter, in the Sack Wern Houses of Soundview. She would be in bed in the pre-dawn hours when the boom … boom … boom of a hard dribble would inform her Kemba was already on the court outside.
His mother was in firm agreement. She saw her son, once a promising young dancer, perform at The Apollo, and she saw him perform at the Garden. After Kemba made that indelible shot to beat Pittsburgh, Andrea did a couple of 360s as she jumped for joy in the crowd.
Why was traded:
Four-time All-Star guard Kemba Walker has agreed to a contract buyout with the Oklahoma City Thunder, and upon clearing waivers, plans to sign with the New York Knicks, sources tell ESPN. Walker, 31, was traded by the Charlotte Hornets before the 2019-20 season, landing with the Boston Celtics in a sign-and-trade deal.
Kemba shares his take on Celtics trade, signing with Knicks
The Celtics traded Walker to the Oklahoma City Thunder in June as part of a deal that included multiple players and draft picks.
Why this homecoming is different: Kemba Walker
A couple minutes into New York’s preseason opener at Madison Square Garden against the Indiana Pacers, Walker had the ball at the top of the key. He then executed a give-and-go with Julius Randle, darted around a Taj Gibson screen and casually laid the ball in over the arms of Pacers center Myles Turner.
As Walker ran back on defense, he flashed a quick smile toward the Knicks’ bench. It was the culmination of a moment the Bronx native — and lifelong Knicks fan — had spent so much time dreaming about.
