Transfer news

The 26-year-old has been openly trying to move to Europe for a long time, pulling back his days with FC Dallas. Considering that club’s success in selling players overseas (and the Rapids themselves began shipping Sam Vines and Cole Bassett to Europe), it is understandable that it would want to take this step.

Subsequently, Rapids told The Athletic that three hours after the trade was completed, a bid came from Europe for Acosta, for “a one-year free loan with the option to buy”, which is not an attractive offer.

However, from LAFC’s perspective a dysfunctional midfielder who has cost over $1 million in allotment money is not great. Obviously, LAFC could get smarter and take him overseas, but Rapids retains some of his sales-fee, so unless he goes for a ton of money, the allocation money outlay doesn’t make sense. Perhaps Acosta was passionate about being disposed, which is a normal human reaction. But he followed up his tweet above with a message that he was looking forward to playing for LAFC. So we will see whether this trade benefits everyone or if there are obstacles in the way. We know that LAFC is willing to sell players overseas – if it’s priced right, that is. So maybe Acosta will get his wish eventually, maybe he and LAFC get together sometime, and we’ll see what happens.
