The New York Giants place the fifth and seventh overall picks in next week’s NFL Draft and could use one of those picks on Edge Rusher.

Several veterans beat journalists, although it is not believed that Oregon’s Kayvan Thibodaux would be there. The Giants are creating a new culture and new general manager Joe Scion isn’t going to take chances on players who can’t buy into the team’s new spells.

Dan Duggan of The Athletic writes, “It would be surprising if the Giants draft Thibodaux because some members of the Front Office have been put off by his persona.” “But Sean will make the final call, so it’s impossible to say with certainty what he will do if Thibodaux is available if the veterans are on the watch.”

“It weighs heavily,” Scion said of a prospect’s character. “If it’s a guy we don’t think fits the character’s point of view, we’ll take him off the board. He moves on and has a good career elsewhere, that’s fine. Whatever we want in our building For that, we just have to fix it.”

Despite battling an ankle injury early in the season, Thibodaux turned in perhaps his most impressive season in 2021, becoming the first Oregon defensive player to earn unanimous All-American honors. He made a total of 49 tackles (12 TFL), 7.0 sacks, two-forced fumbles, and 48 total quarterback pressures and 28 strikes per Pro Football Focus.

Overall, Thibodaux finished his Oregon career seventh in program history with 19.0 sacks, along with 35.5 tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles, 123 total tackles, and seven pass breakups.

As if the first-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft weren’t already set in stone, Thibodaux continued to impress teams in scouting combinations, participating in limited practice. He ran 4.58 40-yard dashes and did 27 reps on the bench press. In front of 31 NFL teams at Oregon’s Pro Day on April 1, he entered a sweeping jump of 9 feet 11 inches, a 3-cone drill of 7.23 seconds, and a pro shuttle of 4.34 seconds.
