The Chiefs announced Hunt’s release in a statement on Friday:
“Earlier this year, we were made aware of an incident involving running back Kareem Hunt. At that time, the National Football League and law enforcement began an investigation into the issue. As part, several members of our management team spoke to him directly. Karim was not truthful in those discussions. The video released today confirms this fact. We are releasing Karim immediately.”
Career earnings
Kareem Hunt earned $17,213,332 in his six-year NFL career. The Kansas City Chiefs drafted the University of Toledo alumnus, and he signed a four-year, $3,285,722 deal with the team, a standard third-round deal as of 2017.
Hunt signed a two-year, $13.25 million contract with the Cleveland Browns at the expiration of his rookie scale contract. At the time of writing, this is his latest NFL contract as he remains unsigned for the 2023 season.

At the end of the day it will come down to money. Hunt had made it known prior to meeting with the Saints that he was unwilling to settle for the veteran-minimum offer. If that’s all the Saints are offering him and the Colts are willing to beat it, then he’s on his own to get the best possible deal.
