Fifteen-year-old Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva made history during the women’s free skate portion of the team event at the Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Valieva made her first quadruple jump ever in women’s competition at the Olympics, and she did it twice. He completed a quad salchow and a quad toe, which included a triple toe combination.

Valiva added a triple axle as she did on Saturday in the women’s short event. She is one of four competitors from Japan’s Midori Ito and Mao Asada and USA’s Mirai Nagasu to have a place in the women’s event at the Olympics.

Veliva fell when she attempted a third quadruple jump, the first time she’d fallen on a quad in competition in an entire season. Despite the fall, his impressive run earned him a score of 178.92.

Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva just made history at the 2022 Winter Olympics—in fact, she did it twice in the same routine.

The 15-year-old is the first woman to do quads, or four rounds in the air, at the Winter Games on Sunday, February 6. She made a never-before-seen move competing in the women’s free skate, only to make history again by doing the second quad a few moments later.

“We will talk about this moment for the next 100 years,” said NBC Olympic commentator Tara Lipinski, per NBC.

Valieva’s successful routine helped the Russian Olympic Committee win a gold medal in team figure skating. The US came in second for the silver medal.

Kamila Valieva is pushing the boundaries of women’s figure skating and broke new ground on Sunday.

The 15-year-old sensation became the first woman to land a quad at the Olympics, achieving the feat during her free skate routine on Sunday.

While she slipped at one point during her routine, Valieva still dominated the field. Her score of 178.92 was 30 points higher than second-ranked Kaori Sakamoto of Japan.

Routine was the cherry on top of ROC’s flagship performance in the figure skating team event. The group already had a six-point lead in the final event, and Valieva ended the overall win in style.

Sunday’s record-breaking feat was not Valieva’s first impressive performance at the 2022 Winter Olympics. They took first place in the short event as part of the team event on Saturday, beating all their competitors by more than 15 points.
