Police have charged an Austin woman with the murder of professional cyclist Anna Morea Wilson. The arrest warrant affidavit includes allegations of a possible love triangle between Wilson, another professional cyclist, and suspect Caitlin Marie Armstrong.

Armstrong, 34, has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting of Wilson, 25, who was found dead on May 11 at an East Austin home.

An arrest warrant was issued for Armstrong, who was not arrested until Friday afternoon.

In the affidavit, investigators say Armstrong split with her longtime boyfriend, professional cyclist Colin Strickland, in October. Strickland then met and became involved with Wilson, but soon got back together with Armstrong.

What happened

US Marshall’s Lone Star Fugitive Task Force is searching for Caitlin Armstrong, wanted for the murder of cyclist Moriah Wilson.

She is facing a case of first-degree murder.

Wilson was coming from California and living with a friend. She was in Austin before a race at Hicko.

Court papers say that on the night of the murder, Wilson went swimming in the Deep Eddy Pool with another cyclist, Colin Strickland.

Then they went to the pool burger before dropping Strickland back to his friend’s house.

Documents say Strickland and Armstrong were in a relationship for a couple of weeks last year before ending it.

At the time, he was involved with Wilson.

An unidentified caller told police that when Armstrong found out, she said she wanted to kill Wilson. Armstrong also told the caller that he would find the gun.

Armstrong’s car was seen in surveillance video at the home of Wilson’s friend. Authorities are looking for a 2012 Black Jeep Cherokee with Texas License Plate LDZ5608.

Death

Officials in Texas were on Friday looking for a woman who was charged with fatally shooting an elite cyclist after it was discovered that the athlete was romantically involved with his cyclist partner.

The US Marshals Service said it was looking for Caitlin Marie Armstrong, 35, who was involved in the May 11 murder of Anna Morea Wilson, 25.

Austin police issued a murder warrant for Armstrong on Tuesday, the service said.

The cyclist, known as “Mo”, had traveled to Texas for a race in Hicko, southwest of Fort Worth, according to cycling outlet Velo News.

Austin police said in a statement that a friend of Wilson’s found his body in an Austin home on the night of May 11. Wilson was pronounced dead shortly after 10 p.m.

Police initially said that he was shot several times inside the home in a murder that “does not appear to be a random act.”
