After a disappointing and error-filled 2023 campaign, Kadarius Toney’s time with the Kansas City Chiefs has come to an end.

The team waived the wide receiver on Tuesday.

After catching a touchdown and recovering a 65-yard punt return in Super Bowl 57, Toney was expected to play a leading role in the Chiefs’ title repeat bid as part of a new-look receiving corps. But he played a central and infamous role in the team’s two most dominant defeats, as he drew ridicule for a series of drops in the opener against the Detroit Lions and then lined up in offside in a game that ended with the running game. He was rejected. The go-ahead touchdown against the Buffalo Bills.

Toney was inactive for the team’s final seven games last season.

Although the Chiefs completed their Super Bowl repeat push, the team still made a significant change at receiver this offseason.

Arrested

Video released Wednesday by the Gainesville Police Department shows officers considered arresting Gators athlete Kadarius Toney last week before determining he carried an open-carrier by placing a loaded AR-15 in the back seat of his car. Did not violate carry laws.

“You can’t have an AR in a car like that,” an officer tells Tony in the video. Which you can see here.

Police said Tony’s weapon was in the back seat, not hidden. But authorities questioned whether the weapon was “on or near him,” which would have violated the state’s open-carry law. They decided it wasn’t, because it was in the back seat rather than between her legs.

Tony told the police that he needed a weapon for protection from the locals in Gainesville because “they are coming after us.” The stoppage came after tensions (and at least one fight) between some Gators and Gainesville residents, including Devante “Tay Bang” Zachery.

Net worth

NFL professional Kadarius Toney has an estimated net worth of around $2 million in 2024.
