Juwan Howard: Fired| Incident| Rumors| Altercation| Resigns

Juwan Howard is under investigation after an incident with longtime Michigan strength and conditioning coach John Sanderson. There are a lot of rumors about the situation going on in Ann Arbor.

Many, if not most, do not appear to be true at this time. The fight was not of physical nature. Howard is not expected to be ruled out at this point.

The Wolverines defeated the Hawkeyes on Sunday night. Sanderson was not with the team. He did not travel of his own free will. It was his decision not to travel. Neither the university nor Howard asked him to do so.

Incident

A shouting match broke out between the two at the handshake line after the game, which escalated so quickly that Howard punched Wisconsin assistant Joe Krabbenhoft in the face – the Big Ten suspended Howard for the remainder of the regular season (five games). and fined him $40,000.

Rumors

There appears to be another incident surrounding Michigan basketball coach Juwan Howard.

Although the extent is still unclear, various reports indicate that there was a confrontation Friday between Howard and program strength and conditioning coach John Sanderson. According to The Athletic, the incident is being reviewed by the university and was not physical, temporarily dispelling some initial rumors that punches were thrown.

“We have no comment,” university spokesman Kurt Swoboda said on behalf of athletic director Warde Manuel in a text message Monday.

A spokesperson for the U-M basketball program also had no comment Monday.

Rumors began to spread at that time – shortly after Michigan’s 90–80 victory over Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena – that Howard had had a physical altercation with Sanderson.

Altercation

Another Michigan coach is under investigation.

Wolverines basketball coach Juwan Howard reportedly had a confrontation with a strength and conditioning coach, which is being investigated by an entity unrelated to the school’s athletic department, according to The Athletic.

While rumors swirled Sunday that Howard would be stepping down, according to Brendan Quinn of The Athletic, he is still the school’s head coach.

Howard’s situation became a hot topic Sunday night when a fake account tweeted that Howard was stepping down and assistant coach Phil Martelli would be the interim coach.

Resigns

For nearly 45 minutes Sunday night, Michigan basketball fans got the chance to enjoy the Wolverines’ much-needed win over Iowa.

Shortly thereafter, reports of a dispute began to surface between head coach Juwan Howard and strength coach John Sanderson, an assistant coach on the staff.

There were even some rumors that Juwan Howard would be fired – a fake poster on X even said that Juwan had resigned, but was staying on as an assistant, which is… It is wrong.
