Justine Lindsay is a Flatiron Research Fellow with the Structural and Molecular Biophysics team. He earned his Ph.D. in Life Science from the University of Tennessee after earning a B.S. in Biochemistry and a B.A. is Psychology also from the University of Tennessee.

Who is:

His research has focused on developing computational methods utilizing high-performance computing to understand the dynamics underlying biophysical phenomena.

Topics have included characterization of intrinsically disordered proteins in a variety of cellular environments, development of algorithms to uncover collective motions and mechanisms of allostery in chromatin and protein complexes and understanding the dynamics of conformation change underlying protein function.

Panthers:

The Carolina Panthers TopCats cheerleading team has hired the NFL’s first openly transgender cheerleader. Justine Lindsay announced on Instagram she made the team, calling it a “dream come true.”

“Cats Out the Bag you are looking at the newest member of the Carolina Panthers TopCats Cheerleader’s @topcats as the first Transgender female,” she wrote on Instagram after making the team. She thanked fellow cheerleaders and her coach for the support.

NFL Cheerleaders:

The first openly transgender cheerleader in the National Football League will make her debut in the 2022 season starting in September.

Justine Lindsay, a 29-year-old Black trans woman, will cheer for the Carolina Panthers “TopCats”, becoming the first openly trans cheerleader of the NFL, BuzzFeed News first reported.

Lindsay announced her hiring in an Instagram post from March, thanking the TopCats team, other dancers who supported her, and their director, Chandalae Lanouette: “This is a moment I will never forget and I cannot wait to show you all what this girl has to bring. Thank you [Topcats] a dream come true.”

While there is not an official record for NFL cheerleaders hired throughout the league’s history, Lindsay appears to be the first openly transgender person.
