UPDATE: ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported Sunday morning that Chargers’ medical staff want Herbert to take a “longer approach,” indicating they don’t want him to play this week, but he does. It appears to be more a “game-time decision” than he originally thought.

Justin Herbert don’t want him to play this week but he does.Starting quarterback is often not a “game-time decision,” but going into week 3, Justin Herbert falls into the category. The young Chargers star injured his ribs in LA’s Thursday night game against Kansas City, and despite practicing on a limited basis, his condition is still up in the air for this week’s afternoon match with the Jaguars. Obviously, whether he plays has a big impact on many of the key players, so you can’t even begin to fantasize until you get some updates on his position.

After limited exercise on Wednesday and Thursday, Herbert (ribs) sat out on Friday. Normally, this would be concerning, but with LA putting out four major giants on Friday, it could actually be a positive sign. At this point, he seems likely to follow suit against the Jaguars, but even with things headed in the right direction, NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport reported Friday that Herbert “isn’t out of the woods yet.”

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was injured in Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs. He was seen holding his left side near his rib cage late in the fourth quarter. But he was able to get back on his feet and attempted to rally the Chargers for a comeback. After Los Angeles lost to Kansas City, it was reported that Herbert suffered a rib injury that would require further testing.

Last week, it was announced that the 24-year-old had suffered a rib cartilage fracture. While it is possible to play with an injury, his pain tolerance will reflect whether he can take the field against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon.

He got an injection on Thursday which helped to relieve the pain to some extent, which apparently helped ease it.
