Jrue Randall Holiday (born June 12, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for one season with the UCLA Bruins before being selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2009 NBA draft. Holiday played four seasons with Philadelphia before being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans in 2013. In 2020, he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks and won his first NBA championship with the team in 2021. Holiday is a two-time NBA All-Star and a five-time member of the NBA All-Defensive Team. He also won a gold medal with the 2020 US Olympic team.

I’m thrilled with this Boston business. After trading away Marcus Smart in June, the Celts are getting a clear upgrade in Holiday in this move. However, this is a big bet on the center pairing of Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis. Boston has a formidable top six of Holiday, Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Porzingis and Horford. Mixing and matching that group should allow for some very powerful lineups offensively.

So the final shot of a Lillard trade to Portland is Robert Williams, Malcolm Brogdon, 2024 Warriors first, 2029 Celtics first, 2029 Bucks first, and two pick swaps with Milwaukee in ’28 and ’30. (The DeAndre Ayton trade, although linked with the Lillard deal, was almost certainly happening no matter where Lillard was sent.) That’s great! Joe Cronin deserves credit for his patience and preparing the market for Dame when for several months it seemed like Miami was the only game in town.

As in, hold on to it, because trouble keeps coming for Miami. First the Heat lost to the Dames while the Bucks got better. Now the Celtics have also made a big improvement. Both teams that defeated the Heat on the way to the finals have made major changes. Meanwhile, Miami has lost two starters from last year’s team and is in somewhat of an unknown situation with Jimmy Butler entering his mid-30s.
