Murder
The deaths of eight people, including six children, in an Oklahoma burning home are being investigated as a homicide-suicide, officials said Friday.
Broken Arrow Police Chief Brandon Berryhill said during a news conference that the children, aged between 1 and 13, had also died and two adults believed to be suspects. They did not provide their identity, age or explain the deceased’s relationship to each other.
The cause of death is still being investigated, but Broken Arrow Fire Department chief Jeremy Moore said it did not appear that anyone died in the fire.
Berryhill said guns were recovered from the home.
The fire was reported around 4 pm. Thursday in a quiet residential area of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, 13 miles (20 kilometers) southeast of Tulsa.
Caitlin Powers said she was driving nearby with her children when she saw a column of smoke near their home, so she proceeded to investigate.
“When I got closer to the house, I saw smoke coming out of the house, which probably looked like an attic,” she told The Associated Press on Thursday.

The Spurs shocked the NBA world on Friday night, announcing shortly before their game against the Bulls that they have forgiven Joshua Primo.
The 19-year-old guard, who was in the middle of his second season with San Antonio, leaves the team after playing just four games this season.
Spurs CEO R.C. Buford said in a statement.
Seeing the Spurs make the move official, some of the biggest newsbreakers in the NBA were also asking the big question: Why did the Spurs decide to cut ties with Primo so early in their career?
Why did Spurs leave Joshua Primo?
San Antonio coach Greg Popovich and the rest of the organization have declined to comment on Primo’s condition beyond a statement issued by Buford on Friday night.
I know you are all shocked by today’s announcement. I am seeking help to cope with my past trauma and will now take this time to fully focus on my mental health treatment. I look forward to being able to discuss these issues in the future so that I can help others who have suffered in a similar way. I appreciate the confidentiality at this time.
The Spurs selected Primo as number 12 in the 2021 NBA Draft. He averaged 5.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 50 games as a rookie. He also spent time with Austin Spurs of the G League during the 2021-22 season.
Earlier this month, San Antonio announced that it had exercised a third-year option on Primo’s contract. Through four games this season, he had increased his per-game average to 7.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists.
