Josh Sills Verdict

After four days of testimony, the jury returned a verdict after deliberating for about three hours. Sills, 25, pleaded not guilty in December 2019 to forcibly stopping the woman in his pickup truck and forcing her to perform oral sex after taking her home. As the jury foreperson read the verdict aloud in the Guernsey County Courtroom, Sills did not react, staring blankly ahead. Later, Judge Daniel G. Josh Sills Verdict: Accuser| Victim| Reddit| Wiki

An NFL lineman who was accused of sexual assault has been found not guilty after a trial in Guernsey County.

Joshua Sills, 25, was found not guilty Friday of rape and kidnapping charges. The charges were related to allegations that in December 2019, Sills forced a woman to engage in sexual activity against her will.

The trial began Tuesday after 100 people were called as potential jurors, a higher-than-usual number given Sills’ notoriety in the community as a standout high school football player for Meadowbrook High School.

Testimony at trial revealed that the alleged victim was with a group of friends who had been barhopping that evening when Sills joined them. According to the testimony, he was studying at West Virginia University at the time and had known the woman since high school.

Victim

Judge Daniel Padden estimated the trial would take five days, beginning on August 1 with opening statements.

The victim, who is being identified only by the initials MM, was allegedly ‘forcefully restrained’ by Sills in his truck.

Her cousin, who had spent the evening with her before the alleged assault, turned prosecutor on Tuesday.

According to WTRF, Breanna Woods testified that a group of friends, including she and MM, went to a few bars with Sills, who they allegedly knew from high school, and met up with him.

She alleged that the NFL player offered to drive her home and was pressing MM’s leg during the trip to Woods’ home, where the victim was also staying.

At home, Woods storms out but MM says she’ll be back in ‘in a minute’. Woods said she went inside and fell asleep, waking up the next morning to find MM ‘distressed and shaken’.

Prosecutors have said Sills “forcefully restrained the woman and raped her” in December 2019. The defense said it was consensual.

According to WTRF, Deputy Mark Fehr of the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Department was also called as a witness for the prosecution.
