Jacobs attended McLean High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. During his high school football career, he scored 5,372 yards and 56 touchdowns for the Titans. He committed to the University of Alabama to play college football.

The Las Vegas Raiders told NFL Network reporter Taylor Bisciotti that running back Josh Jacobs will be active for tonight’s primetime game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Earlier today, it was reported that the Raiders wanted to see how Jacobs looked and felt during the pre-game warm-up, before finally deciding whether to play.
Injury update
After what was initially a game-time decision, the Raiders running back Josh Jacobs will be on the field for Monday night’s game against the Chargers. The 2020 pro bowler has missed the Raiders’ last two matches with an ankle injury. After being confined in practice all week, Jacobs was labeled as suspicious on the Raiders’ final injury report.
Before succumbing to his injury, Jacobs ran for 34 yards and two scores in a Raiders Week 1 victory over the Ravens. Despite Jacobs’ absence, the Raiders started 3–0, beating Pittsburgh in Week 2 and Miami in Week 3. In Jacobs’ absence, Peyton Barber emerged as the Raiders’ primary running back. Barber currently leads Las Vegas with 143 yards on 36 carries. Kenyan Drake is currently second on the team with 44 yards on 21 carries.
The 24th overall pick in the 2019 draft, Jacobs ran for 1,150 yards and seven touchdowns in 13 games as a rookie. In 15 games last season, Jacobs ran for 1,065 yards and 12 touchdowns, earning his first Pro Bowl selection.
Contract
The Houston Texans signed offensive tackle Titus Howard, the 23rd overall draft pick, to a fully guaranteed four-year, $12.225 million rookie deal. According to Spottrack, the Baltimore Ravens didn’t hand this year’s 25th overall pick, wide receiver Marquis Brown, a four-year, $11.787 million deal with only $692,364 guaranteed.
The addition of Jacobs to the Raiders lineup does more than just improve the team’s ground game. He can lead by example and help the team rise above difficult times. His value reflects the rookie pay scale which is higher than that. Pique over a small amount (from the point of view of the NFL) is not prudent. The organization should have no objection to Jacobs guaranteeing the entirety of the contract, if everyone involved is honest.
A perfect storm of circumstances gives the player an advantage in these negotiations. The solution is simple: the Raiders must fully guarantee Jacobs’ contract.
The longer the standoff—with the Raiders featured—appearing on HBO’s Hard Knox this summer—the worse the franchise will look. Mayock & Co. built goodwill this off-season by going aggressive in the business and free-agent markets before adding three first-round draft picks. Still, if no compromises are made, taking over one of those top drafters could leave the organization looking like the same old raiders in front of a national audience.
