Green said he knew it was a possibility that Hart and Alexander-Walker could show up to the game but still didn’t expect it.

“I had never heard of anything like that, so I didn’t really know how to feel or how to move on,” Green said. “I’m glad that Josh and Nickel decided to come because it reveals not only who they are but also the bond and relationship they’ve built here.”

Pelicans center Jackson Hayes said it was an emotional day as he waved goodbye to his teammates at the shootaround and then the game. She was paired with Alexander-Walker in 2019, the same year Hart was traded to New Orleans.

“It felt weird. When I got on the court today it still felt weird without the two of them because they’ve been here in every game I’ve been here. Just looking outside and seeing them there, I was like, ‘What the heck? It’s so weird,’ said Hayes.

Contract

The New Orleans Pelicans have signed banned free agent Josh Hart for a three-year extension of up to $38 million, with $12 million guaranteed.

The club announced the signing on Thursday without providing terms, but a person familiar with the situation provided the length and value of the contract to The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because terms have not been announced.

New Orleans acquired Hart from the Lakers in 2019 as part of a three-team trade that sent star forward Anthony Davis to Los Angeles and several draft picks to Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball and the Pelicans.

Ball, who was also a banned free agent this season, was dealt to Chicago in an August 2 sign-and-trade, which sent Garrett Temple and Tomas Satoransky to New Orleans.

Draft picks

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, CJ McCallum has been traded to the New Orleans Pelicans for forward Josh Hart, guard Nickel Alexander-Walker, Tomas Sotoransky and draft compensation. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the trade will also send the Pelicans to Tony Snell and Larry Nance Jr., while the Blazers will receive Upstairs and Didi Lauzada.

According to Wojnarowski, the Blazers will receive New Orleans’ draft pick for 2022, but only if the pick is between the Nos. 5 and 14. If it doesn’t, Portland will get it in the future.

The Portland Trail Blazers finally moved their long-term shooting guard after years of speculation, choosing a younger player and cap space instead.

Picked 10th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft, McCollum formed a high-scoring backcourt pairing with teammate Damien Lillard in Portland for the better part of a decade. The two were often mentioned in the same breath as Steph Curry and Klay Thompson as the league’s best guard tandem.

Highlights

Josh Hart first heard about NBA Top Shot, a platform where users buy and sell highlights called “Moments” in January for thousands of dollars. He was initially skeptical.

“I’m getting paid to see the highlights?” Hart explained on ESPN’s The Jump. “I could go to YouTube to see the same highlights. Why am I paying for this?”

Three weeks later, he created an account and started buying packs and palls from the market. Hart now owns 179 Moments, the digital equivalent of NBA trading cards. His new hobby, he said, is fueled by the fun he gets from interacting with the top shot community, his “obsessed personality,” and yes, the chance that, as an early adopter, he can make a few bucks.
