Josh Giddy made history when the Oklahoma City Thunder selected him with the No. 6 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Not only did he become one of the most drafted Australians in NBA history, but Giddy also became the first NBA Academy graduate to be selected in the draft.

Giddy spent 18 months at the NBA Global Academy in Canberra, Australia. He then played for the NBL’s Adelaide 36ers in the 2021 season, earning NBL Rookie of the Year honors.

Now a part of the Thunder’s historic rebuild, as well we chronicle Giddy’s best moments, stats, and highlights from his rookie season.

Age

Oklahoma City rookie Josh Giddy became the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double on Sunday night.

Giddy had 17 points, 14 assists and 13 rebounds for his first triple-double in the Thunder’s 95–86 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. The 6-foot-8 guard achieved the feat in 19 years, 2 months, 23 days by defeating Charlotte’s LaMelo Ball, who had a triple-double in 19 years, 10 months, 17 days.

Giddy, the sixth overall pick in last year’s draft from Australia, was back in the lineup after missing three games to the NBA’s health and safety protocols. He took 7 for 16 off the ground and made 3 for 5 against Dallas from long distance.

“It’s good, as I said earlier in the year. Personal stats are good, you enjoy it for the night,” Giddy said, “but a win is always better than individual stats. If I have zero- There’s zero-zero and we win, so it’s always better to have a triple-double and lose.”

Girlfriend

Looks like Josh Giddy was the only man at the time. He looks like a guy who is more focused on making a good career for himself in the basketball game.

Josh Giddy may sound like more of a Harry Styles warmup act than a hotly-talked-about rookie, but the No. 6 pick in the 2021 draft is no fish-out-of-water at the NBA level. Actually, this 19-year-old Australian is seen absolutely at home. After just 26 games in Australia’s National Basketball League last season, Giddy has been one of the most influential rookies in the NBA along with Cade Cunningham, Evan Mobley and Scotty Barnes. The 6′ 8″ guard is one of only three teenagers in NBA history to make 100 rebounds and 100 assists in his first 20 games, joining LeBron James and LaMelo Ball.

Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised by Giddy’s rapid adjustment as a rookie. He credits the NBL as an important step forward for the NBA from both a skill and rigor standpoint. “It’s a very physical league in Australia,” Giddy says. “People get caught in the paint, and referees let go of a lot of things.” And Giddy spent a large part of his childhood with a basketball in his hands. His father, Warrick, was a two-time NBL champion in 1993 and ’97—sporting an impressive mane in his own right—and his mother, Kim, played for the Melbourne Tigers in the WNBL. The cool giddy on an NBA floor isn’t necessarily a new development.
