Trade rumours
The Western Bulldogs were dismayed by their latest trade talks with the Lions as the Dunkley deal came to a standstill. There were reportedly early discussions about the dogs landing at Lions Pick 15 and future first round selections, although Brisbane reportedly wanted two second rounders (30 and 39) and a third rounder to return to the exchange. The Lions then opted to trade down their pick 15 with the Giants to help them land father-son duo Will Ashcroft and Jaspa Fletcher, thus handing them over to acquire Dunkley. SYN reported that the dogs were left “irritable” and are now ready to let Dunkley walk on the pre-season draft – a suggestion Dunkley’s manager Liam Pickering said was “ridiculous”, while remaining “reassuring”. But a deal will happen. The swap as originally discussed would have something to do with dogs and lions meeting the middle.

But with the Western Bulldogs seeking more than Brisbane’s first pick – initially pick 15, but now taking 21 through trade deals, an impasse has been reached and that is a concern for Johnson.
