Baseball Reference:
As part of the deal, the Yankees will assume the entire remainder of Donaldson’s large contract, for which they will have to pay him $50 million over three years, $42 million of which will be over the next two seasons.
To Minnesota came two longtime starters in New York, Sanchez has been in the “Big Apple” since the 2015 season and has been selected to two All-Star Games and Urshela had been wearing the flannel of the team with the most World Series in history for three seasons.
Hair:
The Bronx Bombers’ quiet offseason has come to an abrupt end, as the Yankees and Twins have combined on a blockbuster of a five-player deal.
Third baseman Josh Donaldson, infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and catcher Ben Rortvedt are all heading to the Yankees, while the Twins will pick up catcher Gary Sanchez and infielder Gio Urshela.
Born: 8 December 1985 (age 36 years), Pensacola, Florida, United States
Mullet:
Donaldson has a five-team no-trade clause, though it isn’t known if the Yankees were one of the five clubs on his list, or if he waived his clause to head to New York.
The Yankees will pay a $2MM assignment bonus due to the trade, and in being moved, the $16MM club option on Donaldson for 2024 now becomes a mutual option with a $6MM buyout, rather than an $8MM buyout.
The $50MM still owed on Donaldson’s contract is being entirely absorbed by the Yankees, as per MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.
Wife:
Josh is currently in a relationship with his girlfriend Briana Miller. The couple started dating in 2017. Previously Josh was in a relationship with Jillian Rose but they split up in 2017 though it’s unclear when or why it happened.
In a post by Terez Owens, it was alleged that Brianna caught Josh with a girl who is a reporter with Blue Jays though neither of them cleared up the rumors.
Swing:
In 2016 Josh was proclaimed as a reserve for the American League in the All-Star Game.
Donaldson left the game later straining his right calf and was placed on the 10-day restricted list the following day, on 13 April 2017 where he avoided salary negotiation with the Blue Jays by agreeing to a one-year, 23 million contract for the 2018 season.
He then signed a four-year contract worth 92 million USD with the Minnesota twins on 22 January 2020.
