The last time Joseph Parker was ranked New Zealand’s No. 1 active male fighter by Boxrec, the sport’s official record keeper, John Key was still Prime Minister and George Ezra’s ‘Budapest’ single topped the charts.

It was August 2014, and the 22-year-old heavyweight prospect had stopped Brian Minto in seven rounds a few weeks earlier and moved to 9-0 with eight knockouts.

The TKO victory over the veteran American slugger saw Parker replace Robert Berridge at the top of the site’s domestic pound-for-pound rankings, with the Wanganui light heavyweight having suffered the second defeat of his career over Vasily Lepikhin in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, earlier the same month. Had to face defeat.

Net Worth

Joseph Parker has a net worth of around $5 million.

Drugs

Former heavyweight boxing champion Joseph Parker allegedly exchanged money used to buy drugs for a syndicate that sent approximately 20 kilograms of meth through the post. Police had a warrant to search his property but never executed it, and he was never charged. The reasons behind those decisions remain a mystery until now. Edward Gay reports.

As a regular international traveller, with large amounts of cash, Parker was the perfect person to handle money transfers for a global drugs ring, the Crown claimed as part of the High Court trial.

The South Auckland native is accused of helping finance an international drug operation, buying Class A drugs from one of its members and offering to put a dealer in touch with a “new contact”.
