He defected from Cuba in 2011 in search of a career in MLB. After establishing his residence in Haiti, Soler signed a nine-year contract with the Chicago Cubs. He made his MLB debut in 2014. The Cubs traded Soler to the Kansas City Royals after the 2016 season.
Yankees
The New York Yankees are reportedly highly interested in 19-year-old Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler.
Earlier today it looked like Soler was heading to the Chicago Cubs when he reportedly signed a four-year, $27.5 million deal, but those reports turned out to be false.
If that’s really the asking price for Solr, would it be worth it? The best way to find out is to compare him to the major league players.
Any team will benefit from signing Soler, but the New York Yankees are in particularly excellent shape and have a huge opportunity to acquire strong talent that has yet to be developed.
Fantasy
According to MLB Network’s John Heyman, the Atlanta Braves continued to improve their outfield on Friday, acquiring George Soler from the Kansas City Royals just before the deadline passed. No word yet on a return for Kansas City, but Soler is now the third outfielder that Atlanta acquired on Friday after trading for Eddie Rosario and Adam Duvall.
Soler has struggled this year with a .192 average and .658 OPS at the plate, but he still managed to sledge 13 homers with 37 RBIs and scored 38 runs in 94 games. He won’t put much value in fantasy outside of the darker formats.
Trade
The Kansas City Royals have traded outfielder George Soler to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for right-handed pitcher Casey Kalich. … the team announced the trade on Friday, adding Kalich would be assigned to the Quad Cities (A).
Looks like the royals worked out the deal just before 3pm on Friday. mlb trading deadline MLB Network reporter Jon Heyman first reported the news. The royals confirmed the news shortly after.
The Royals will get minor league right-handed pitcher Kelly Kalich in return. He will lead the Royals A team in the Quad Cities.
Record
The 29-year-old Soler was hitting .192 for the Royals this season with 13 homers and 37 RBIs. He set a franchise record in 2019 with 48 home runs, as well as hits (156), doubles (33), RBIs (117), walks (73) and runs scored (95) that also set career highs in that season.
The start of summer is near, and perhaps the warmer weather will help the Royals warm up to designated hitter/outfielder George Soler. While Soler, which has a triple slash line of .177/.266/.320, is struggling, he leads the majors in a (vague) position: reaching the base of the catcher’s intervention.
