Swing

Jordan Spieth: Swing| Wife age| Wife| Win| Biography

PACIFIC PALISADEES, Calif. – So far it seems like ancient history, but just last year Jordan Spieth’s swing was in disarray.

He was battling a two-way miss and seemed to have no idea where the ball was going when he got near the ball. His world ranking had dropped to 92nd, his four-year drought without winning was approaching and there was little evidence that he was on the verge of a breakthrough.

But just as Spieth’s swing problem seemed beyond repair, he found an experience that changed everything.

Once that switch was flipped, we started to see the glow of old Jordan Spieth. He made back-to-back top 10 cards in San Diego and Phoenix followed by a strong showing at the Genesis Invitational. The strong play on the West Coast quickly turned into a trend and he returned to the winning circle in his home state of Texas later in the spring.

A year later, Spieth has returned to Riviera Country Club to continue that momentum, and he is still relying on the swing spirit that began his transformation in 2021. If you pay close attention you can see him rehearsing it before almost every swing.

The rehearsal starts with a normal takeaway, but once he’s about halfway back, he picks up the club and starts moving his arms and hands behind him. Once he gets to the top, Spieth is aggressively out of the club and so can swing more around his body on his way down.

While many professional golfers meet their significant others during the tour, this was not the case for Jordan Spieth.

The 28-year-old golf star married his high school sweetheart and girlfriend, Annie Verret. The pair met in high school in Texas, and remained together despite attending different colleges – Spieth played golf for Texas Longhorn University, while Annie studied business at Texas Tech. Spieth and his wife are naturally college football fans to their alma maters.

The longtime couple got engaged around Christmas 2017 and married in November 2018. The wedding was attended by several tour players, including Ricky Fowler, Jason Dufner and Zach Johnson, all of whom posted photos from the event to social media.

Jordan Spieth’s wife, Annie Verret, served as the event coordinator for The First Tee of Greater Dallas, an organization that provides golf lessons to youth, during which they gain leadership skills and life lessons. She has also served as director of development for The Birthday Party Project, a Dallas-Fort Worth nonprofit focused on bringing joy to children experiencing homelessness through the magic of birthday celebrations.

Last fall, the couple announced they were expecting their first child at the end of the year; their son Sammy Spieth was born on November 14, 2021.

Win

Playing four groups ahead of Cantley, Spieth held Harbor Town’s par-4 18th Lighthouse Hole in regulation, with a 5-under 66 and a 10-footer for a 13-under 271 total. Cantley crossed 18th place in regulation to 68.

When Spieth finished, he was one stroke behind Shane Lowry. But on the 14th par-3, Lori’s chip ran into the green and into the water, causing a double bogey. He returned a stroke after 69.

In the playoffs, Cantley also hit in the front bunker, his lie looking like a fried egg. He blasted 35 feet ahead of the cup and missed the par put.

Three strokes after Harold Warner III entered the round, Spieth eagled both front-nine par 5s to get into the mix.

Spieth won his 13th PGA Tour title and a second consecutive title on Easter Sunday after taking the Valero Texas Open a year earlier to end a four-year drought.
