Did win today
Spieth’s victory at RBC Heritage on Sunday was a symbol of his entire career. It included myriad twists and turns—including a quirky, off-the-beaten-path golf cart ride to the first playoff hole—and ultimately “Wait, how in the world is he holding that trophy?” ended with? final task. It’s largely Jordan who has been around for the past nine years, which has made him both a joy to cover and a nightmare to root for but never – I mean never, no matter the circumstances – to watch. irrelevant to
The win for Spieth is the 13th career win that has been both longer and shorter than before. It prepares him for an optimistic summer that will have two hometown events to go, a Grand Slam effort in the Southern Hills and, the granddaddy of them all, a recap of an Open Championship in the 150th edition of that event this summer. Old Course, where he nearly took home his third straight Major back in 2015.
In light of what happened Sunday in Harbor Town and what lay ahead for Jordan over the next three months, I gave some lingering thoughts about the victory that probably shouldn’t have happened and how we should feel about it.
What majors has won
The PGA Championship is the only major that Spieth hasn’t won yet. He won consecutive Masters and US Open in 2015 and British Open in 2017.
Jordan made a lot of noise during the 2015 PGA Tour season. He won back-to-back big wins and finished the other two in the top five.
At the time, it was thought that Spieth, then a 21-year-old phenom, would easily be able to do something that few golfers have been able to do throughout the game’s history: the career Grand Slam.
Seven years on, he’s still in a race to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy for the first time.
Jordan will have another breakthrough in winning the PGA Championship at the 2022 event. He will enter a marquee group with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in the first two days of the tournament, and will be under pressure to match the performance of his highly successful counterparts.
