Tackle

More than half of the seven-week suspension handed to Melbourne’s Jordan McLean to tackle Alex McKinnon was due to an injury to the Newcastle back-rover.

The NRL Judiciary Panel of Bob Lindner, Chris McKenna and Mal Cochran attributed 725 penalty points to tackles that caused McKenna to suffer a serious spinal injury.

The NRL revealed in a statement on Thursday that 400 points with every 100 points, resulting in the suspension of a match, “was allocated after consideration by the panel of a number of factors, including the injury to Alex McKinnon.”

Contract

According to The Daily Telegraph, his current value could be more than half that of $300,000 per season. It is understood that a rival club has expressed interest, but is only willing to pay around that figure, rather than the $700,000 it has reportedly been for.

It is unclear which club would have shown interest given McLean’s form. The Dolphins may have at one point, however, with the signing of experienced forwards Jesse Bromwich and Mark Nichols in the middle third, making it highly unlikely they will chase any more veterans in the middle.

The Melbourne Storm – McLean’s former club – will lose Jesse Bromwich, while Neslon Asofa-Solomona’s future at the club is secure, while some other youth rosters such as the Canterbury Bulldogs and West Tigers may inquire about a player like McLean.

Wedding

The wife of England football star Jordan Pickford celebrated in her glamorous Dubai Hen Do style two years after their childhood sweethearts tied the knot in an incredibly low-key ceremony.

Jordan, 28, married wife Megan Davison in March 2020 amid the Covid pandemic.

Megan and her footballer husband wore casuals for the ceremony at a registry office in Crewe, Cheshire, but the pair later planned to have a larger party.

However, his dreams of a delayed celebration were dashed due to the pandemic.

Born on April 24, 1974 in New Rochelle, New York, Jordan is the only child of Allen and Cynthia McLean (computer analyst and painter/community activist, respectively). He was raised in and around New York City, which includes Hell’s Kitchen, Astoria, and Mamaronec. At age 6, McLean began piano lessons with Michael Ruskin, son of famed composer Gene Ruskin, and was given his first trumpet at age 10 through the PS111 Band program. McLean attended high school in Leonia, NJ. While attending high school from 1988 to 1992, McLean studied trumpet with teacher Ed Truttle, theory and band practice with legendary band director Larry Silverman, and took part in his pre-college program (1991–1992). He traveled to the Manhattan School of Music. After high school, McLean attended SUNY Purchase, where she graduated summa cum laude in composition, was an Artsbridge America Scholar, and studied with compositional luminaries Derry John Mizell and Joel Thom.

Wife

Jordan McLean is no longer faceless. He has overcome the adversity of being removed from Canberra’s junior representative system. He overcame the hardships of moving to Melbourne at the age of 17. Three times he has torn the hamstring to the bone. Making his NRL debut against the Roosters last May, he recovered three times. It may come as a surprise to learn that their biggest problem in Melbourne has been a lack of aggression.

“He’s always been a gentle giant,” reveals Julie. “He has never been sin-bound or set-off in his life. He is so calm, that, if anything, Melbourne has tried to make him more aggressive.

“It’s in his nature to be kind and accepting, and that’s probably what helped him deal with it. When he stood down, he took it remarkably well. Although he wanted to play, he understood could see what was going on at the time.”

When Jordan McLean called yesterday morning and said he had been cleared to play, Julie noticed a change in her son’s voice for the better. His, however, was very much the same. Gentle, yet firm. A mother protected from uncertain days, weeks, months and years to come.
