Jordan Chiles: What happened to| Medal| Appeal

During the finals, Chiles was initially given a score of 13.666 for her performance in floor gymnastics. However, his Team USA coach, Cecil Landy, submitted a check on his score, giving him a 0.1 point lead and earning him a bronze medal in the event. They then replaced Romania’s Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Voinia, moving them to fourth and fifth place.

Medal

Jordan Chiles may have to return the bronze medal he won in the floor exercise final at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled on Saturday that the judging panel improperly allowed scrutiny in the women’s floor exercise final, allowing Chiles’ score to be inflated and move her into bronze medal position. The Swiss-based court found that Chiles’ appeal was submitted before the one-minute time limit for such requests and therefore should not have been accepted.

As a result, CAS said, the American gymnast should have received a score of 13.666 in the event – which would have placed fifth, just shy of the Olympic podium.

The International Gymnastics Federation, which governs the sport, confirmed in a statement later Saturday that Chiles’ score had been reinstated and Romania’s Ana Barbosu, who scored 13.7, was moved back to third place.

It’s unclear whether all this means the 23-year-old Chiles will now have to surrender his bronze medal. A spokesperson for the FIG said that the reallocation of medals is the responsibility of the International Olympic Committee. The IOC press office did not respond to multiple messages seeking comment and clarity on the situation.

Appeal

Jordan Chiles’ bronze medal on floor exercise is now in the hands of the International Olympic Committee after her coach missed the one-minute time limit to clear her score by four seconds.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled on Saturday, reducing the American gymnast’s final score to 13.666, one point less than the score that had propelled her to the podium five days earlier, leaving her behind Brazil’s Rebecca Andrade, who won Did. gold, and her teammate Simone Biles, who earned silver.
