Report

Addison fell to the ground after struggling for a disputed catch in Wednesday’s practice, The Athletic’s Alec Lewis reports. According to Zach Jackson of The Athletic, the second-year pass catcher collided with Cleveland Browns cornerback Cameron Mitchell during today’s joint workout.

It appeared that Addison had suffered a leg injury during the game. The Minnesota training staff helped him off the field and onto a cart, which took Addison back to the locker room.

Fortunately, it appears that Addison has escaped serious injury. Head coach Kevin O’Connell said Addison has an ankle injury and is unlikely to practice Thursday, but he is relieved.

“I think he’s going to be OK,” O’Connell said, according to Purple Insider’s Matthew Koller.

The Vikings selected Addison as the 23rd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft after posting All-American performances at Pittsburgh and USC.

Status

The luck is getting worse for the Minnesota Vikings as second-year wideout Jordan Addison had to be carted off the field today with a foot injury after jumping for a contested pass.

The news comes just hours after it was announced that rookie QB JJ McCarthy underwent surgery on Wednesday for a torn meniscus, which will cause him to miss the entire season.

Sam Darnold will step into the starting passing role for Minnesota.

We know little about Jordan Addison’s injury so far, but it’s safe to say we should be concerned about the pass-catching group in Minnesota.

Addison is expected to build on a promising rookie season. Addison scored seven touchdowns in his first eight weeks of the 2023 season and recorded 70 receptions for 911 yards and ten total touchdowns at the end of his rookie campaign.

Hopefully the Vikings are being very careful with Cart, but if Addison misses any or all of these starts this season, it would be a huge blow to Minnesota’s offense.

Justin Jefferson will continue to be elite even with Darnold at quarterback. With the combination of Joshua Dobbs, Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall at quarterback, Jefferson averaged 18.6 fantasy points per game in five games last year. Jefferson’s target share could rival CeeDee Lamb’s for the Cowboys as Minnesota is running out of pass-catching options.
