New contract

Jonathan Taylor: New contract| Extension| Press conference

Taylor and the Colts agreed to a three-year, $42 million contract extension that includes $26.5 million guaranteed, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Saturday.

Extension

The Colts’ most dangerous offensive player is back and getting paid.

Running back Jonathan Taylor signed an extension with the Colts on Saturday, the team announced. Sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the three-year, $42 million extension includes $26.5 million guaranteed and makes Taylor one of the NFL’s highest-paid running backs.

Taylor also was removed from the physically unable to perform list on Saturday and does not have an injury designation, allowing him to make his season debut on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

The new deal makes Taylor the first man to earn a long-term contract worth $10 million or more per year since Nick Chubb in 2021, nearly 800 days ago.

“I greatly appreciate the support of my teammates and Colts fans,” Taylor said in a statement. “I can’t wait to get back on the field and do everything I can to help bring this city the championship it deserves. I’m proud to be an Indianapolis Colt.”

Press conference

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor met with the media on Thursday for the first time since concluding the offseason workout program in June.

A lot happened during those few months. Taylor requested a trade when the Colts made it clear that they would not offer him a contract extension until he proved he was healthy. The entire situation became public, and it appeared that the relationship was beyond repair.

However, Taylor is set to be activated from the PUP list soon after missing the first four weeks of the season. On Thursday, he met the media for the first time since the story broke over the summer.
