No quarterback has ever earned the distinctive trifecta of a national championship, the Heisman Trophy, and the Super Bowl.

It’s worth noting one quarterback who came close to becoming the first quarterback to earn that distinctive Triple Crown: Cam Newton.

The former Auburn quarterback led the Tigers to the 2010 BCS Championship, a season in which he also won the Heisman Trophy. 1 in the 2011 NFL Draft and five years later, led the Panthers to Super Bowl 50, a year in which he was also named NFL MVP. But poor performances against Von Miller and the Broncos kept Newton out of that influential fraternity.

That said, there have been three non-quarterback players who achieved that elusive feat: Tony Dorsett (Pitt, Cowboys) and Marcus Allen (USC, Raiders) and trailing defensive back Charles Woodson (Michigan, Packers).
