Joseph Tyler Mixon (born July 24, 1996) is an American football running back for the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football in Oklahoma, and was drafted by the Bengals in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Contract

The long-awaited expansion for Joe Mixon is over. Contract talks were going on for the Bengals this off-season, but the star put pen to paper by running back earlier this month.

He signed a four-year, $48 million extension, which makes him the highest-paid running back in Bengals history and the sixth-highest-paid running back in the NFL.

His wallet may be thick, but the 24-year-old isn’t satisfied.

“I want to be the best and best man on the field day in and day out,” Mixon said. “Just basically shooting for goals I haven’t achieved yet — being the Pro Bowl [and] being the MVP. Doing those high-level types of things and getting those rewards. I’m hard at it.” I work hard. Everyone else is getting paid to do things to defend me or block me or whatever the case may be, but I definitely feel like I’m that type of caliber player and I definitely I’m going to produce something like this.”

Salary

Mixon’s salary will increase from $575,000 to $5 million in 2021, not to mention the more than $3 million available in bonuses. His salary will increase to $8 million in 2022, then to more than $9 million in 2023 and 2024.

Last year was definitely a tough one for Mixon. The good news so far is that he has impressed his coaches this season.

“Joe does everything we ask him to do. He’s catching the ball very well. He’s getting wide. He knows who to stop at safety and how to do it,” Bengal’s Head coach Zack Taylor said Tuesday. “He’s a really strong runner. He really buys into the plans that Frank (Pollack) employs and what we’re asking him to bring up.
