Joseph Francis Judge (born December 31, 1981) is an American football coach who most recently served as the head coach of the National Football League (NFL) New York Giants from 2020 to 2021. Prior to joining the Giants, Judge served as an assistant coach for the New England Patriots from 2012-2019. The Patriots appeared in four Super Bowls, winning three of them during the judge’s tenure. Judge led the Giants to a 6–10 finish in his first year as head coach, followed by his dismissal on January 11, 2022, after a 4–13 season.

Mara cleared the off-season spending spree in free agency because he believed in the judge’s vision—and that he would take the Giants back to the playoffs. The only way the judges wouldn’t be able to make it through another year was with a full-blown disaster in 2021.
And this is what happened. Judge was fired after a 4–13 season, ending with six straight losses, all by double digits, and a series of incidents that led to Judge’s relentless mockery by current and former NFL players, coaches, and prominent analysts. Gone. He was 10-23 overall in two seasons.
“I said before the season started that I wanted to feel good about the direction we took when we played our last match of the season,” Mara said in a statement. “Unfortunately, I cannot make that statement, so we have made this decision.”

Joe judges contract: Giants reportedly give new coach a five-year deal, not one of the league’s highest-paid people
According to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New York Giants who expressed their commitment to Judge offered him a five-year contract to become their next head coach. The deal follows the same number of years as the Giants’ last head coach Pat Shurmur, who was fired two years later, held a 9–23 record.
According to the New York Post, the judge will receive a little over $5 million per year. It’s not on the top 10 list of highest-paid coaches, as reported by CBS Sports affiliate John Breech.
New York is banking on the judge to rebuild a franchise that hasn’t won a playoff game since Super Bowl XLVI and has made only one postseason appearance since the 2011 season. The Giants have had six losing seasons in eight years and have won just 12 games in the past three years.
The first thing the judge has to change is the culture of New York, which could take more than two years to find Shurmur and Ben McAdoo. The Giants are no longer built to win.
“I’m all about the old-school physical mindset,” Judge said in his introductory news conference Thursday. “We are going to put a product on the field that the people of this city and region will be proud of because this team will represent the region.
