Joe Beasman Hall (November 30, 1928 – January 15, 2022) was an American college basketball coach. He was the head coach at the University of Kentucky from 1972 to 1985, leading the Wildcats to a national championship in 1978.

When Joe B. Hall became the men’s basketball coach of the University of Kentucky in 1972, with little to no head coaching experience at a major college and was becoming the heir to one of the sport’s greats.
Hall’s predecessor, Adolph Rupp—the man he called Baron—replaced basketball as the bluegrass and coal of the Kentucky landscape during his 42 seasons at Lexington. He coached four national championship teams, and his 876 wins at the time were the most of any coach in college basketball history.
In 13 seasons as Kentucky’s head coach (after seven as Rupp’s assistant), Hall faced second guesses from some of the Wildcats’ fan base, which failed in any season without a national championship. There was a reputation to consider.
But Hall enjoyed considerable success. He led Kentucky to the NCAA. The tournament took the championship and the Wildcats to the Final Four three times. He was named Coach of the Year after Kentucky defeated Duke, 94–88, for the first N.C.A.A. of the 1978 national championships, the Wildcats. title in 20 years
Joe B. Hall passed away on Saturday. He was 93 years old.
His death was announced by the university, which did not say where he died.
