Pearl necklace story:

The impish, well-liked Pederson insists there’s no big story here, no deeper meaning behind the accessory.

(And even in the realm of sports and fashion, the choice reads less “nuanced gender critique” and a little more “white boy swag.”) But baseball being baseball, he’s still fielding plenty of questions about it.

“It’s a mystery for everyone,” Pederson said after a recent game, a cigar in his hand like a goofy villain (or just a guy celebrating a division title). “They’ll never know.” A few days later, he told reporters that he wears the necklace simply because he is “a bad bitch.” It’s all joie de vivre, baby.

Pederson, 29, had 11 home runs and a .718 OPS in 73 games for the Cubs after signing a one-year, $4.5 million deal that included a $10 million mutual option and $2.5 million buyout. The deal comes just days after Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. tore the ACL in his right knee.

Atlanta begins the second half of the season four games behind the first-place New York Mets in the National League East and a game under .500. They’ve dealt with an inordinate amount of injuries throughout the first half.
